Best remembered as Quinns Bar, in Drumcondra, North Dublin, has a long and chequered history intertwined with GAA fans, the local neighbourhood, and the broader North Dublin community. 

Originally known as Cook’s, then McGovern’s, it became Quinns around 30 years ago.The bar, located near Croke Park, is a popular meeting spot for those attending matches and events at the stadium. It has seen various owners, including the former billionaire Sean Quinn, and underwent significant refurbishment in recent years. 

Despite some challenges, Quinns is undergoing a revival and is expected to reopen soon, and will continue its legacy as one of the finest Dublin Public Houses. 

Quinns is particularly known for its association with GAA fans, especially those from Ulster, who frequent the bar before and after matches at Croke Park. 

The building itself dates back to around 1880 and is a three-story structure with a cellar. 

The bar was once owned by Sean Quinn, and later by BlackBee Investments before being purchased by its current owners. 

In recent times, Quinns underwent a €1.5 million refurbishment led by Simon Kelly and Jay Bourke, and has been expanded to include new bars, a large food terrace and a large greened yard for outdoor events and weekend street food markets, etc. 

The bar is described as a landmark pub in Drumcondra and a perfect and popular meeting place near Croke Park, the Royal Canal, the the Royal Canal Way recreational area with walking and cycling trails, and of course it’s vibrant local community. 

Quinns has also been the subject of good, bad, and ugly news stories, including a murder that occurred on the premises in 1998 and a health and safety issue in 2015 that treatened closure.
